You Are Going To Israel. What Next?

June 6, 2018 By Admin Leave a Comment

Israel is one of the most beautiful, and culturally and historically important countries in all of the world. The land has many religious affiliations and is believed to be the birthplace and death place of Jesus Christ. He is said to have traversed this country to the likes of Jerusalem and Bethlehem. An estimated 3.5 million visitors make their way to Israel each year, with many coming to enjoy the healing and transforming powers thought to lay within the land. Once you’re set on traveling to Israel, it’s advisable to learn more about the custom, culture, and particulars that are going to affect you.

Religious Significance

Tour to the holy land as a Christian and fulfill one of the most significant rites of passage for those who wish to pay their respects, renew their faith, and bring the scripture to life. Although there doesn’t often seem like a convenient time to leave your busy life behind for a week or two, many Christians recommend making the journey to The Holy Land at least once in your lifetime and sooner rather than later. Remember to take your camera along with you, as you’ll want to catch images of the setting to later reflect back upon.

Ready For The Weekend

The Israeli working week commences on a Sunday and breaks for the weekend on Thursdays after sunset. This will impact how you travel around Israel, especially if you want to get somewhere at the weekend. In some secular cities, restaurants and other establishments stay open during the weekend. However, places in more religious areas will cease to operate during the Jewish Sabbath. So, play it safe wherever you can and either check to see whether certain places and transport systems are going to be closed, or what time they’re expected to shut. Avoid traveling on the days that you cannot be 100% sure of how you’re going to reach your destination safely and smoothly.

Getting Around

Israel enjoys efficient and reliable public transport systems, and none more so than the trains, inter-city buses and the intra-city ones, as well as shared taxis, and the shared bike system too. Before you depart headed for Israel, make sure that you’ve downloaded the necessary apps for making your way from A to B.. Again, remember to plan your route taking into account the weekend period, as otherwise, you could find yourself a little stuck.

Temperatures

The Middle East boasts some of the warmest climates in the world, and Israel is believed to teeter around the average high temperature of 79ºF (26ºC) during July. If you’re coming to Israel in the height of summer, then it’s wise to pack sensibly and appropriately. Pack your bags with heat, comfort, and modesty in mind. Both men and women are expected to cover parts of their body during important dates in the religious calendar, so don’t forget to pack a long garment of clothing – long enough to cover your shoulders and your legs. With this said, the dress code in Israel is largely relaxed and laidback, and shorts and t-shirts are more than acceptable.

Living in London: Good Times and Bad

May 12, 2018 By Admin Leave a Comment

London is one of the most exciting cities in the world. It’s the biggest city in the UK with the most impressive theatres, museums, restaurants and clubs the country has to offer. It has the cultural and sporting legacy of a recent Olympic Games, the ‘mother of Parliaments’ and a world-famous skyline that includes ancient architecture and bold new skyscrapers.

It’s also expensive, crowded, expensive, stressful and expensive. Visiting as a tourist is a very different experience to living there, just as rising at eleven and choosing which park, museum or other sight you’re going to see is very different from rushing out of the house fifteen minutes late to cram onto a sweaty, overcrowded tube train to the office.

Today we’re looking at some of the best times for Londoners as well as ways to make the worst a little better.

Summer

Summer is definitely a good time in London. Even if it means hotter journeys to work, and days spent gazing out of the window at sunshine you’re not allowed to go out in, when you do get outside the city is built for sunshine.

London is nearly 50% green space! Wherever you live there’s a nearby park you can get out to, and that makes it easy to enjoy the sunshine. Even if you’re rented flat doesn’t have a garden, it’s not an issue to get together with some friends outdoors and even enjoy traditional summer game of using a disposable barbecue to burn the outside of a sausage black while the inside remains innocent of any cooking whatsoever.

London comes to life in an entirely different way on summer days, with crowds spilling out from pubs, parks filling with people and that rarest of all London sights, smiles flitting across faces.

Moving House

Sadly, moving house is something most Londoners have to get used to. With the price of property outstripping wages for the past several decades, few can muster the savings necessary to afford a mortgage on even a small home.

This means moving as your needs and budget change, the victim of landlord’s rent rises and or properties being sold out from under you. Fortunately if you’re looking for cheap storage London has you covered, so if you need to move at short notice you can put your bulky possessions into storage and sofa surf with obliging friends until you find a home you can commit to again.

Visiting The Lake District, England

April 16, 2018 By Admin Leave a Comment

The Lake District in the North West of England is a beautiful area. For anyone that loves nature and wants to escape to a quiet area for their next vacation, rather than visiting England’s capital of London, perhaps you should discover everything that The Lakes can offer.

Scenery

Wherever you go in and around the Lake District, there is so much amazing scenery to enjoy, for free. If you have children, this is the perfect place to get them active and enjoying nature. There is a reason that the Lakes hosts millions of tourists every year, and this is because of how beautiful it really is. Whether you go on a boat across the stunning Lake Windermere or you take your children on the Buffalo Trail, there is plenty of things to discover and enjoy, all whilst taking in the fresh country air. If you’ve never been abroad, Tourist2Traveler.Com has some great tips.

Accommodation

If staying in a cottage, far away from everyone else, surrounded by peace and quiet and the beauty of the lakes and mountains sounds like your dream vacation, the Lake District can certainly offer you this. With many stunning lakeside cottages to rent, for couples and families, this is a perfect way to get closer and discover quaint country pubs with lovely locals. You may want to brush up on your Cumbrian dialect though!

Things To Do

The Lake District is home to many adventurous activities, as well as more educational pursuits. The famous author and poet William Wordsworth had a little house in Cumbria, in which he spent time writing some of his most famous poems. The Castlerigg Stone Circle is another must-see; these stones are around 4,000 years old and are surrounded by a spectacular view of the mountain peaks. If you want to do something a bit more thrill-seeking, the Lake District has many adventure sports on offer. You may want to rock climb on a real mountain or kayak and scuba dive in the natural great lakes. You can rent rowing boats if you wish to have a more chilled out time on the water. Whatever you want to do, take advantage of everything that these natural formations can offer you.

Food and Drink

There are many great restaurants and bars to be discovered in the Lake District, which is perfect for those who want to discover some local pubs rather than large chains. There is something lovely about grabbing a pint in the beer garden, all whilst knowing you are supporting a friendly local, and you will notice a difference in service too. Keswick is home to some great restaurants and bars, such as The Chief Justice of The Common Pleas, which is an old courthouse turned pub where you can enjoy your food and drink in a holding cell, or sat in the judge’s chair.

You won’t be stuck for things to do when visiting the Lake District, and discovering the mountains and lakes is completely free, meaning you don’t need to spend a fortune.

Thrilling Experiences To Enjoy In Florida

April 14, 2018 By Admin Leave a Comment

Traveling is something everyone should live to behold, and seeing different parts of the world is truly thrilling and fascinating. After all, travel is the only thing you pay for that makes you richer. So, if you’ve got dreams of seeing the world, then make your dreams happen. Where there’s a will, there’s a way so get saving and planning and leave get your tickets booked. If you’re traveling in the US, then you’re far from short of fantastic places to go and see. US travel needs little introduction, so if you’re keen to travel in America, and specifically Florida, then this list is for you.

Escape Rooms

If you’re seeking adventure and you’re somewhat of an adrenaline junkie, then escape rooms are for you. They require strategic thinking to crack codes and decipher the meaning in clues and cryptic puzzles. Escape Room Jacksonville has a series of rooms to choose from including museum heist, island escape, the kidnapping and hostage. These rooms require the help of a small team, so if you’ve got a handful of willing friends and travelers with you then you’ve found the perfect activity to enjoy in Florida.

Catty Shack Ranch

When traveling, try and see as much as you possibly can and use every day as an opportunity to learn and get involved in new activities. Staying in Jacksonville for this one, you can find the catty shack ranch that houses endangered big cats. This ranch doesn’t breed from, sell, nor trade the animals they keep just in case you are unsure about traveling to sanctuaries who do more bad than good. The ranch offers a tour of the park whereby you can see tigers, leopards, cougars, and bobcats.

Florida Keys

Florida Keys is a beautiful coral bay off the coast of Florida, and it stretches for 120 miles. If you’re thinking of dropping by to the keys, then be sure not to miss out on scuba diving and snorkeling to see the extensive array of local wildlife and sea creatures. Don’t forget that you can appreciate nature without destroying it, so remember not to interfere with the creatures you see and don’t leave trash items such as plastics anywhere other than in the bin. If you want to see sea creatures up close and personal, then be sure not to miss seeing the Florida Keys, and if you love beaches, then this is for you. You won’t be bored if you choose to travel to Florida Keys.

The NASA Kennedy Space Center is the astronaut hall of fame and should be high on your list of places to visit while in Florida. The center provides hours of fun and insight including learning about each specific periods of time and achievements. Try and plan your trip so that you get to watch the center launch one of their rockets into space.  This center is iconic, and you’ll regret not going to see it when you’re traveling in Florida.

5 Reasons to Visit Europe on Your Gap Year

March 16, 2018 By Admin Leave a Comment

There’s no question about it, being a student is a lot of hard work and often a lot of stress. It seems as though there is always a flow of assignments, projects, and reading to be done, and for many students, they are also juggling a part-time job at the same time, never mind a social life. While it’s great to transition straight from secondary school right into your next form of schooling, such as one of the best surgical tech schools that the U.S. is known for, it’s not exactly the relaxing way to do things. This is where a gap year comes into play.

If you’ve decided that you’re going to take a year off, or a gap year, between completion of high school and the start of college or university, then why not make the absolute most of your time. Here we’ll take a look at top five reasons to visit Europe during your gap year.

A Lesson in History and Architecture

One of the greatest reasons to visit Europe during your gap year is the fact you’ll be able to enjoy a lesson in history and architecture that you can’t get from flipping through textbooks. Being able to see these sights in real-life is a whole other experience and can provide more meaning to the sites and attractions.

Learn a New Language

If you plan on spending a significant amount of time in Europe, either traveling around or staying in one place, you may also have the ability to start picking up a new language. For those who have hopes of learning another language while in Europe, you can always get a head start and begin with lessons at home.

Experience Different Cultures and Cuisines

Sure, you may enjoy going to that local Italian eatery near your home or enjoy sampling various draft beers at the local English-style pub, but that’s not a true reflection of the cuisine and culture in Europe. Visiting these countries in person gives you a chance to dine where the locals dine, experience their culture, and the atmosphere. These just aren’t possible unless you visit in person.

Broaden Your Understanding of the World

For those students who have never traveled outside their own country, it can come as a pretty big shock just how different other places can be. It’s not just how the countryside looks, it’s the people, their way of life, and the social economics of that destination. It’s a wonderful way to broaden your understanding of the world, which can help you to see things in a different light.

A Chance to Think About Your Future

Perhaps you’re taking a gap year because you’re unsure of what you want to do with your future and what career path you want to take. Traveling to another country can give you a new perspective on things, open your eyes to career paths that match your interests, and help identify areas where you excel. At the very least, it will ensure you come back with a clear mind, allowing you to make a decision about your future.

A trip to Europe can easily be the most beneficial thing you do for yourself during your gap year.

Exploring the World of the European Ossuary

February 21, 2018 By Admin Leave a Comment

The enduring popularity of both murder mysteries and true-life crime illustrates the human fascination with death and the macabre. These subjects exert a hold over us that we relish despite our discomfort or even revulsion. The reasons behind our love of the grislier side of life are rooted in our feelings about our own mortality, and many worthy tomes and scientific papers have been written examining this phenomenon. Whatever lies behind it, the demand for books, films, TV shows and other forms of entertainment that draw on this fascination with death shows no sign of diminishing. If you are one of the many who loves these darker experiences, you will probably enjoy visiting one of Europe’s amazing ossuaries, where real human bones are preserved and displayed.

Italy

Palermo’s Capuchin catacombs in Sicily are home to a collection of 8,000 bodies, embalmed after death and then put on display. The remains are generally skeletal, but seeing them dressed in their finest clothes for their funerals brings an element of the bizarre to the display. Rome, home of so many historical wonders, has its own ossuary in the church of Santa Maria della Concezione. The bones of over 4,000 Capuchin monks have been used to create artistic displays, in what is intended to be a celebration of life and the importance of living every day to the full.

Portugal and France

Evora’s Capela dos Ossos (Chapel of Bones) in Portugal is constructed entirely from human remains. The crown molding is formed from rows of human skulls, and the walls are packed with ribs and tibias. The chapel was decorated by 16th-century monks when they ran out of room for burials and had to fit 5,000 bodies within the chapel. Possibly the most well-known underground collections of bones are in the Paris Catacombs. The remains of an astonishing six million French citizens are stored in the maze of subterranean chambers, due to a historical lack of burial space above ground, coupled with the practical application of using bodies to help support the abandoned mines that were posing a threat to the stability of the city above.

Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is home to a vast collection of around 60,000 skeletons which have been used to decorate the chapel of the Kutna Hora church. The Sedlec Ossuary features skull candelabras and huge bone pyramids amongst its gruesome décor, with a chandelier formed from all the bones of the human skeleton taking center stage. The Brno Ossuary had lain almost forgotten until 2001 when construction excavations began under St Jacob’s Square. The archaeologists brought in to perform routine checks on the area were amazed to find the bodies of 50,000 people, thought to have been dug up and placed in storage in the underground channels to make room in the cemeteries for the newly deceased.

These collections of bones and skeletons may sound morbid and creepy, even if you do have a taste for a good scare, but when you visit an ossuary, you will be struck by how beautiful some of these displays can be, and what a marvel the mind and body of the human being can be.

Here’s Why You Really Should Visit the Caribbean at Least Once in a Lifetime

February 5, 2018 By Admin Leave a Comment

Source

While there was a time when no one thought about a bucket list until they were reaching retirement, or at least during late middle years, it is becoming increasingly popular to create those lists much earlier on in life. As the saying goes, you never know what tomorrow may bring, and that seems to be a common thread among Millennials as well as Gen Xers who will be the next big groups to reach retirement but not anytime soon, of course. So why would you want to put the Caribbean on your bucket list? Here are at least five good reasons you might want to consider.

1. Warm, Sunny Beaches

It goes without saying that the Caribbeans best and always most popular reason to visit the islands is because of the warm and sunny beaches. But, here is one thing many people aren’t familiar with. Did you know that not all the islands are crowded with tourists? There are more than 7,000 islands in the Caribbean, so you always have your pick of beaches any day of the year!

2. Diversity of Cultures

Consider those 7,000 islands for just a moment. Here is something many people don’t stop to think about. Those thousands of islands represent 13 different sovereign nations along with 12 independent territories which are closely tied (and protected by) the United States and several European countries. One example would be the Guadalupe Islands, which are overseas departments of France and, interestingly enough, part of the European Union because of this. If you are looking for a chance to acquaint yourself with a variety of cultures, the Caribbean is where you’ll find that place.

3. More than Just Beaches for Outdoor Activities

Most people think of sunny beaches when they think of a trip to the Caribbean, but did you know that many of the islands have far more to offer in terms of outdoor activities? In fact, some of the islands are not visited as much for their sandy beaches as they are for the hilly, rugged terrain that makes a perfect backdrop for backpackers and hikers. From touring with mountain bikes to trekking through those hills, there is something quite intriguing about visiting the more remote islands to get a bit of activity after a year in that office chair.

4. Friendly Locals

Review after review of resorts in the Caribbean says that what visitors loved most about their vacation in the Caribbean was the friendly way in which they were greeted by the locals. This area of the world is one of the most visited vacation spots, but that isn’t why the locals are so friendly. It appears to be a part of their culture as a people living apart from mainland worries, and that is something everyone can enjoy.

With so many islands to explore, a diversity of cultures and the world’s cleanest and sunniest beaches, why would anyone want to visit the Caribbean at least once in a lifetime? Just remember that if you are trying to visit at a time when prices tend to be lower and crowds are thinner, sometimes visit locals consider the low season. In most of the islands, there is a high and a low season, and prices tend to rise a little at certain times of the year, but with the weather always warm, any time is a good time to visit the islands. Book one of your fantastic accommodations and see for yourself! You won’t be disappointed.

The 8 Travel Experiences That Will Change Your Life

January 22, 2018 By Admin Leave a Comment

While some people want to enjoy a holiday that allows them to relax and unwind, others are looking for unforgettable adventures that will forever change their outlook on life. If you fall into the latter, you have come to the perfect place. Check out the eight outstanding travel experiences that will change your life.

  1. Tackle Mount Kilimanjaro

A Mount Kilimanjaro hike is a test of endurance, determination, and passion. Only those focused and brave enough will make it to the peak of the summit. To reach the top, you will need to hike through not one, not two, but five unique climate zones, which will each have different weather patterns, wildlife and vegetation. Yet, you will undoubtedly feel a great feeling of satisfaction after you have trekked through rainforests, walked through an alpine desert, and finally reached the snow-capped peaks. If you can do this, you can do anything.

  1. Take a Road Trip Along the Pacific Coast Highway

There is nothing more liberating than hiring a car and taking to the open road, with no idea of the sights that lay in store for you on your travels. You’ll feel a great sense of freedom as you book into motels, grab dinner in diners, and stop at different gas stations throughout the journey.

America offers a great range of picturesque roads for you to choose from, but the Pacific Coast Highway is easily one of the best. The route, also known as Highway 1, runs for 1000 km through the Californian coast, you will be passing through various fantastic attractions, such as San Francisco Bay, Big Sur, Santa Barbara, and Monterey. You will love experiencing the rocky cliffs, mesmerizing views, and wild nature. It’s a travel experience unlike any other.

  1. Cruise under Niagara Falls

What better way to experience the majesty of Niagara Falls than to jump into a boat and voyage to the very heart? With a staggering vertical drop of 50m, Niagara Falls flows from four of the five Great Lakes: Michigan, Huron, Erie and Superior, with over 600,000 gallons of water traveling down every single second. You board the luxury boat in Canada, with the cruise bringing you face-to-face with the powerful Falls. You can even take the trip in the magical starlight, and experience the incredible illuminations with the ultimate Falls cruise. Don’t forget your waterproofs though!

  1. Drive Through the Australian Outback

Challenge yourself by taking a drive through the vast stretches of road located through the Australian Outback. You can drive for miles and miles, and still not see a car or a soul, so you should take the opportunity to step outside your vehicle and simply breathe in the immeasurable silence. You will have never have felt more calm and alive in your life. However, you must stock up on plenty of water for your travels, as the heat will be intense, which is often the biggest challenge you will face. You must also phone ahead so residents in the next town will realize if you are overdue and will quickly travel to you to provide much-needed assistance. It’s an experience not for the faint-hearted.

The roads will also allow you to drive into the heart of Australia and meet the indigenous people, who could challenge any preconceptions you may have had, and you’ll definitely learn more about Australian culture.

  1. Take an Overnight Train in India

You haven’t experienced tough overcrowded public transport until you have taken an overnight train in India. Embrace the culture by battling your way through a crowded train station and identifying where you need to board.

The train carriage will also be a unique experience, as it’s almost like a city within a city because it’s alive with people, conversation, food, and the beautiful aroma of fresh coffee. Local merchants will also make their way throughout the train to offer mouthwatering dishes you’ll want to try. If you have no problem giving up your personal space, it’s the ultimate way to experience life in India once the sun goes down, and you’ll learn about the kindness of strangers, as thoughtful locals might be happy to share their food with you. It might be challenging, but it is anything but boring. You’ll never experience anything quite like it again.

  1. Experience a Safari on the Masai Mara

Going on safari is not about taking Instagrammable photographs of hippos and elephants, as the experience will increase your understanding of nature and the circle of life. The Masai Mara is an eye-opening experience, as you will get up close and personal with some of the wildest animals in Africa, which will be one of the exhilarating moments of your life. You’ll also learn more about the survival of the fittest with the animals so that you will become more familiar with nature’s food chain.

  1. Step Inside Rome’s Colosseum

The Colosseum is one of the biggest buildings in all of Rome and is almost 2000 years old. You might have seen photographs of the historic landmark, but you cannot fathom the enormity of the Colosseum in both scale and history until you have stepped inside. You’ll learn more about how emperors shaped the world and the exceptional achievements of the Romans. You’ll walk away with an informed view of world history, which can be a humbling experience.

  1. Experience Holi in Mathura and Vrindavan

It’s impossible for Holi not to change your life. The Hindu festival is, after all, based on the spirit of forgiveness of yourself and others. The temple towns of Mathura and Vrindavan will be alive with color in spring, as a free-for-all of colored water and powder will make everyone look like walking rainbow. You’ll have never had more fun in your life than throwing colors at your friends and strangers during the festival. While the festival has since spread across the world, it is here that it will hold special significance, as it is Krishna’s birthplace.
