The UK is awash with amazing sights and locations that just need to be explored. If you’re the outdoorsy type of person, it’s likely that the UK will feature highly on your list alongside other such notable destinations as Canada and the USA. The UK has a slightly different twist though – with almost every type of terrain accessible in a relatively small area of land, the UK offers up everything from beachfront to mountain top and all the treats and sights in between. Sound like your kind of thing? Read ahead for the top outdoorsy things to do in the UK.

Cornwall

One of the UK’s most prominent beach destinations, Cornwall is a small strip of land, surrounded on three sides by ocean. The famous Jamaica Inn, popular due to Daphne DuMaurier’s novel of the same name, stands proudly at Bolventor, the ideal place to visit on a break from driving. The coastline is impressive throughout Cornwall, but particularly at notable points such as Godrevy Beach, St Ives and Land’s End. Visit Penzance to gain access to the famous St Michael’s Mount – a small island castle and village set in the sea, accessible by foot but only during low tide. Aside from this, the rest of the county is awash with small villages and ancient sites, perfect for hikes and getting a bit of exercise while exploring something unique.

Snowdonia

If you’ve ever wanted to climb a mountain – make it Snowdon. Snowdon is not only one of the easier peaks to summit throughout the whole of the UK, but it’s also got several different access routes that allow for a variety of summit options. If you’re not interested in climbing Mount Snowdon but want to visit Snowdonia, consider staying in the beautiful mountain village of Betws-y-Coed, a picturesque location where you can easily base yourself and explore other areas of Snowdonia such as Beddgelert or Llanberis. Not sure about Snowdonia? No problem – check out southern Wales and the county of Pembrokeshire for some truly stunning rugged cliff sides and trails that will have you coming back time and again.

Yorkshire

With rolling green hills and gorgeous little villages made of stone with cobbled streets, Yorkshire is one of the most unique and beautiful counties in all of the UK. Home to the spa town Harrogate, it’s got a reputation for its serene beauty as well as its history. Visit some of the tourist sites like Old Mother Shipton’s Cave or take to the trails and hike the rolling hills and area of natural beauty. One of the most enjoyable towns to visit is York, where the impressive York Minster attracts visitors from around the world alongside the birthplace of Guy Fawkes, one of the original members of the gunpowder plot.

Whatever your reason for visiting the UK, it’s easy to see that it’s got its fair share of great outdoorsy activities and destinations for all lovers of the outdoors. From mountain climbing to beach combing, there’s something for everyone in the British Isles – but don’t take it from us, come and experience it for yourself. The UK is just brimming with things to do and experience, so come and make this your new favourite outdoor holiday destination. You won’t regret it.

Planning An Action Packed Trip To Kenya

May 19, 2019 By anthony Leave a Comment

If you asked someone what their dream trip would be, a lot of people might say kicking back on a beach in Tahiti or whiling away the hours on some Caribbean island. While both are great ideas, many more people might opt for doing something a bit more adventurous such as planning an action packed trip to one of the African countries. Kenya is one of the hottest countries that welcomes travellers and the potential to have one of the most memorable holidays ever. Here are just a few of the things you should consider doing when you visit Kenya.

Mount Kenya

Mount Kenya is the highest peak in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa, second only to Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Mount Kenya is a challenging climb for those who want to flex their mountaineering muscles while in the country and it’s a fantastic addition for any itinerary if you’re adventurous. In recent years, accommodation has been added to the mountain to make it easier for climbers to acclimatise to the altitude, resulting in more successful summit attempts.

An interesting point of note is that Mount Kenya actually directly provides water for over 2 million people as a result of runoff that comes off the mountain. During your ascent you can see examples of this in some of the beautiful rivers and waterfalls that don the routes.

The Serengeti and Maasai Mara

The Serengeti in Tanzania is one of the most famous African plains where safaris are a popular and common activity. The region in Kenya north of the Serengeti is known as the Maasai Mara National Reserve and is home to numerous small Maasai tribal villages as well as just about every type of animal you could wish to see on safari. The whole area is home to numerous types of flora and fauna and is also a popular spot for many to watch the annual wildebeest migration in which millions of wildebeest flock across the plains in a terrific display of numbers on their migration path. This particular region is insanely popular for safari-seekers, so it’s a good idea to book yours well in advance of your stay to ensure you get the lodges and packages you’re after. Best times to visit are June to October in the dry season, which is also the height of wildebeest migration.

The Beaches

Head over to the coast for a bit of rest and relaxation after safari – something you will highly enjoy after spending a few days tracking game through the wilds of the Maasai Mara or other safari reserves throughout Kenya. The coast is to die for – with beautiful resorts, beaches and ample opportunity to just kick back and relax with nothing to disturb you except the waiter bringing you another cocktail. Don’t take it from us though, come and see for yourself. Flights to Mombasa from other areas of Kenya are the quickest way to get right onto the sand, so check them out ahead of time.

With so much to see and do throughout the country, we’re sure you will have no problem planning an action packed trip to Kenya. But don’t take it from us – come and see for yourself just what this unique, beautiful and welcoming country has to offer its visitors.

Tips For A First Time Visit To Russia

May 19, 2019 By anthony Leave a Comment

When it comes to travelling, everyone always wants to explore a country that’s new, unique and maybe a bit challenging. Countries with lots of history, great food, and welcoming people are always a bonus, so many people often go for the tried and tested locales like Mexico, Thailand or Greece. Many don’t usually consider the delights to be had in Eastern Europe, and namely in the enormous country of Russia. Sound like something you’re up for? Check out this great article for some tips for a first time visit to Russia.

Get Your Visa Before You Go

One of the most important things to do before heading off to Eastern Europe is to check out visa requirements. For Russia in particular, as well as many of its neighbours, visas are required and many don’t often provide visas on arrival. Therefore it’s a great idea to look into getting your visas before you go, to avoid getting delayed or rejected from entering the country altogether. There are a number of ways to do so, such as going to the embassy or consulate yourself, but getting a Russian visa online is so much easier, cheaper and far less hassle. Not only that, but you can be sure that your application is in the hands of professionals who do this kind of thing for a living, so you don’t run the risk of missing out something important from your application.

Choose Your Destinations

Russia is HUGE! And we do mean HUGE! It spans the gamut from the border with Ukraine in the west, with Russia’s westernmost borders being directly north of the likes of Turkey while in the east it borders China, the Bering Sea and North Korea. It goes to show just how enormous this country really is, so you need to make decisions as to your destinations while inside. Coming from the UK, it’s often quite a hefty trip, so sometimes you might stop off in Krakow or other nearby cities to connect to flights to Russia. Why not make the most of your time in Krakow and book a taxi to see the sights of the city before your flight? Before you get to Russia though, consider which cities you want to visit – the possibilities are huge!

Food Options You Have To Try

When people think of Russian food, they might be surprised to learn that it’s not bland and just consisting of potato as is the stereotype. Russian food is varied, delicious and is some of the best in the world.  Beetroot soup known as Borscht, often with chunks of beef, lashings of sour cream and sprinklings of dill is one of the most delicious soup options you can go for. Small, half-moon shaped dumplings known as varenyky are delicious as well, especially when paired with sour cream. Sausages, pies, and baked goods are numerous and varied. In short – we’re sure you won’t starve in Russia, especially if you’re open minded and like to try new foods.

So if you’re looking for a cool, slightly challenging place, consider Russia for your next getaway. It’s more than worth it and you’ll be left wondering why you didn’t go sooner. Enjoy!

Recap: UnMarketing On Holiday Campaigns, Emails And More

February 8, 2019 By anthony Leave a Comment

When it comes to getting the lowdown on everything to do with online marketing from email campaigns to creating the ultimate marketing strategy and more, Scott and Alison Stratten of UnMarketing are simply the best. Not only is their knowledge about marketing sought after by small businesses across the world, but huge corporations like PepsiCo and the like are looking to these two Canadians for their expertise on getting those oh-so-important metrics and conversions. Have you been wondering about the importance of holiday campaigns and email marketing? Here’s the latest recap from their podcast.

Geography – It Counts

When it comes to different types of emails for any reason – not just the holiday season – it’s imperative to remember that geography counts. If you’re a brick and mortar store and you’re sending emails to people who live a four hour drive away, you probably aren’t reaching your customer base. Sure it might seem like a good idea, but realistically what are the odds that those people are going to be in the region soon?

Instead, focus on customers and potential customers in and around your area. Customers are more likely to be interested in your products and business if they’re likely to, you know, go there.

Email Frequency – Why You Need To Pay Attention Now

No one wants seventeen emails. Repeat. No one wants seventeen emails. Scott and Alison touched on the importance of email frequency and keeping it steady and along what your customers expect when they first sign up or subscribe. If you promise to send a weekly update or updates every quarter, stick to that schedule. It won’t look good to customers if you send nothing for months then bombard them over the weekend of Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday, Giving Tuesday and the like.

Videos – Live Or Not Live

Scott and Alison also touched on the importance of videos for your business – but only if they’re going to be relevant and provide value. There’s nothing worse than a video full of fluff that wastes customers time and offers little in return. Likewise, it’s important to be confident in your video, look the part and treat any video almost like a job interview with your customer – you want to impress and get that business or contract, so make sure your videos are professional and you’re dressed to reel in that customer.
So if you’ve been wanting to catch up with UnMarketing, check out their recaps with Emma to learn more about what you should and shouldn’t do with email marketing.

Great Camping Experiences – What Makes Them, and How To Have One

September 9, 2018 By anthony Leave a Comment

Source

Now that summer is over and school is back in session, you and the kids may be bemoaning the loss of those carefree weekends camping as a family in all your favourite spots. While autumn does bring in some cooler weather, never fear – if you live in an area where it’s a slow process you might be able to squeeze another trip or two in before the white stuff flies. If you don’t however, why not consider stocking up on some cool gear that helps you get out and get back under the stars – come what may?

Here are a couple of our top picks for things you’d need if you want to extend that camping season into the chillier months.

Tents

One of the main reasons it gets so cold when camping is from laying on the cold, hard ground. Many people purchase special heating pads or insulated ground coverings to solve this issue, but what about going one step further? Opting for a truck roof tent can be a great way to get off the ground and up a bit higher, helping to stay warmer and more insulated than your traditional pitched tent on the ground. Another benefit to sleeping in a truck tent is a less chance of being accosted by insects in the night. Even if you aren’t able to use a new truck tent this season, it’s a great option for those hot summer nights next year when you find you can’t sleep inside the house.

Helpful Equipment

If you’re the type of person who really likes to get out and among nature through camping, then you might want something that really puts those campsites to shame in the way of creature comforts that you can bring on the road with you. Tuff Stuff 4×4 is the place to check out everything you need from trailhead winches to overland expedition trailers that are solar ready with full kitchens, the perfect accessory to make any long distance road trip through backcountry a success story.

Make Camping Your Go To Activity

Everyone who’s ever been camping knows what fun it can be – taking off out of town with your favourite people in tow to check out some of nature’s best spots below mountains, along lakesides and on beaches. With so many places to explore while camping, the world becomes your oyster, even if you’re only exploring your own regional area. The benefit to some places with larger area to cover is that you will never run out of places to explore – especially with Tuff Stuff and all their fantastic gear that you will want to make your camping spot a home away from home.

So if you like camping and are still wanting to get in on it a bit before the weather changes too badly, why not consider saddling up with some unique and heavy duty gear that will continually get you from one end of the country to the other with nothing but great times and adventures to be had in between. Enjoy!

Each port stop on your cruise will offer up a whole array of exciting options for getting off the boat and getting into the local area. With such great options such visiting the Palace of Knossos and the archaeological museum in Crete to getting lost in the backstreets of medieval Trogir in Croatia, it’s easy to see why so many people choose Mediterranean cruises for their getaways. There are quite literally hundreds of great things to see and do.

A Great View – Right From The Deck

It’s no secret that if you head up on the top decks, as you wind your way through the passageways and narrow lanes of islands throughout the Med that you will have amazing, unadulterated views. Imagine the stunning scenery you’ll see when you cruise past such sights as the Amalfi coast, the rocky shores of Crete, the rugged coastline of Albania and mainland Greece or the volcanic islands of Santorini. Sit back and relax perhaps with a glass of your favourite local wine in hand as you watch the world literally float past you.

World Class Cuisine

If you’re a total foodie you won’t want to miss out on a cruise trip to the Mediterranean. The region is known for some of the world’s best cuisine and wine, with opportunities to get off the ship and wander tiny winding back streets that are often home to some of the most unique local undiscovered gems in terms of culinary experience. From pasta and pizza in Italy to olives, souvlaki and the tastiest local wines in Greece or grilled lamb in spice with delectable coffee in Turkey and more options throughout the Med, it’s easy to see how some of the food options here are to die for. Come back an expert in cuisines of the Med and make them at home to relive memories of exploring tiny village cafes and rubbing elbows with locals.

So if you want something a bit new and different this year, why not consider taking a cruise to the Mediterranean. With many countries to choose from in the area, the only problem you’ll face is “which country should I pick?”

The Ultimate Must See List In Tanzania

May 11, 2018 By anthony Leave a Comment

When you first start thinking about places you’d like to go in Africa, it’s inevitable that the usual suspects make their way into your mind. Things like taking the challenge by the horns and climbing Kilimanjaro or joining a world famous safari group on the Serengeti. But what about the other things that you can do, and since Kilimanjaro is in Tanzania, what specifically should you not miss in this large and amazing country? Here are the top things you have to check out when you’re in one of Africa’s greatest gems, Tanzania.

Source

Kilimanjaro

Of course climbing one of the world’s most famous mountains is a must for many people during their trip to Tanzania. Climbing Kilimanjaro can be an awe inspiring, challenging but life changing and affirming experience. Many who choose to climb this spend the previous months preparing as the climb can be gruelling depending on the route you take. Some routes are suitable for children and families but a general rule of thumb is that children under 10 aren’t permitted due to the terrain and difficulty of the climb.

The highest mountain in Africa, Kilimanjaro is actually a dormant volcano with three volcanic cones. Standing at a height of over 19,000 feet, it’s imperative to climbers to spend the night over several days on the mountain in order to acclimatise to the elevation changes and to lessen the discomfort and sometimes dangerous effects of altitude sicknesses that can be a problem at further heights. Typically most of the routes up Kilimanjaro take around a week. To enjoy the trek and allow for a day or two where you might need to take it a bit easier due to altitude, consider booking a trip that is around eight days in length, depending on your chosen route.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area

This conservation area is a wide swathe of land in the north eastern part of Tanzania, about 180 kilometres west of Arusha. The region is known for the Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s Seven Natural Wonders which is the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera, the result of a huge volcanic eruption and subsequent collapse between two to three million years ago. The highlands of the crater vary in climate depending on what side of the crater you find yourself – it covers over two hundred and fifty square kilometres of land – with one side of the crater receiving more annual rainfall that the others. The inner portions of the crater are primarily grassland and provide excellent areas for animals of all kinds to find water, food and shelter from the elements.

The Maasai people here have used the fertile land of the inside of the crater to subsistence farm for generations and are today struggling to retain claim to this land. After the Serengeti was made a national park, the Maasai people were moved by the government to the crater region as an attempt to rehome them. There was also a drought and other issues plaguing their former lands at the time, such as infestations of certain pests and widespread illnesses. Today the continued fight to create a more protected status for the crater means that the rehomed Maasai are again facing expulsion.

Believed to be the spot that humans first inhabited, hominid remains have been found that date back three million years. It’s also believed that one of the first footprints of man is found in the crater, making this not just an important place for animals, but also for mankind.

The Serengeti

One of the most famous safari and national parks in the world, the Serengeti National Park sits in the northern part of the country and is home to some of the most spectacular wildlife viewing options available. The park extends into southern Kenya in an area known as the Maasai Mara, a popular destination for those looking to experience both wildlife as well as village life. Serengeti is literally derived from a Maasai word meaning ‘endless plains’ and is rated as one of the Seven Wonders of Africa due to it being the site of the largest mammal migration in the world to take place on land. The Serengeti, being a hugely sought after safari site boasts numerous camps, lodges and companies which vary in class and rating from basic tent based safaris all the way up to five star lodges with private safari tours.

While the Serengeti is one of the most popular and sought after safari experiences in Africa, one thing has come to light in recent years and that’s the fact that overcrowding can be an issue. To avoid overcrowding, try to go in the shoulder seasons right at the beginning or ends of the rainy season. The bonus is you are likely to score a decent deal as well if you phone in advance and book last minute.

Zanzibar – An Island

Located off the east coast of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean, the island of Zanzibar stands out like a pearl in the turquoise blue seas. The island is fairly large and takes awhile to get around by car but is home to not just perfect beaches but idyllic corners of quiet solitude and small local villages where the coconuts are fresh and the smiles are plentiful. Nungwi on the very north coast is said to be the party town for those looking to mingle with other backpacking travellers and those who want to get their dance on, but nearby Kendwa offers a similar vibe, but much, much quieter with beach bars selling all the latest and greatest in cocktails, mocktails as well as local and international beers. Accommodation on the island ranges from modest and rustic bungalows all the way up to ultimate 5 star resorts with private beach access and even – get this – your own butler.

Stone Town

Stone Town is the capital of Zanzibar and as a result is a bustling little urban area with a surprising amount to see and do. The harbour is a lovely little thing, with brightly painted boats set against the turquoise backdrop of the Indian Ocean. Peddlers of food and trinkets line the streets, as do taxi drivers who call at you asking if you need a ride somewhere. As a general rule of thumb circa 2014 a taxi ride from Stone Town to Nungwi kind of distance was around $30USD. Stone Town is also home to the famous lead singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury and you can even tour his home, something any fan of Queen will have high on their to do list. Stone Town overall is a great place to just check out a museum or two, take some cash out (ATMs are few and far between over the rest of the island) and possibly stock up on any snacks, medical supplies and the like that might be harder to find in the rest of the island. You can also arrange fishing trips, snorkelling trips, and spice tours to numerous plantations throughout the island to see how things like nutmeg and vanilla are grown.

So there you have a couple of great places to check out in Tanzania, a country that will both challenge and surprise you at every turn and leave you breathless and thrilled. So come to Tanzania – you won’t regret the choice, especially with so many other countries to head to from its well connected airport as well.

Why Niagara has so much more to offer than just the Falls

March 22, 2017 By anthony Leave a Comment

Source

Well over 30 million people visit Niagara Falls each year, with numbers increasing with every season. With so much to see and do for all ages though, it isn’t hard to see why. If you’re planning your next break away, check out these top reasons why Niagara has way more to offer you and your family than just a few snaps by the Falls…

1. So Many Tours On Offer

You’ll probably be familiar already with the Hornblower Cruise, which sails past the American and Bridal Veil Falls before taking you right up to the base of the famous Horseshoe Falls. While this adventure is thrilling in its own right, were you aware that there are dozens more tours besides that? If you’d like to see a new side to Niagara, why not take a guided tour around the Gorge, where you can feast your eyes on all the geological features and ancient landscapes that have made Niagara the place it is today?

If you fancy somewhere a little livelier though, how about taking a tour around the Daredevil Exhibit in the IMAX Theatre by Clifton Hill, which is packed with amusement arcades and other fun activities for the kids, not to mention the SkyWheel and Skylon Tower for unparalleled views.

2. Just Think Of The Food And Drink

If you’re a food lover or wine connoisseur, you couldn’t be in a better spot that Niagara! This area is home to some of the best wineries in Canada, including award-winning Icewine recipes. You can take one of the regular tours from the Fallsview area right into the heart of the wine country, where your expert guide will explain the production process, even allowing you to sample some of their best tipples and ideal food pairings.

If you prefer company while you eat, why not attend one of Niagara’s many food festivals? You and 30,000 other people will be able to enjoy the Springlicious Food and Drink Festival this year, with many culinary delights on offer, as well as beers and spirits. For a touch of class though, you’ll find many fine-dining experiences to satisfy your appetite; why not try out the new Niagara Falls restaurant, Morton’s Grille? With crispy pizzas, tender steaks and tasty cocktails, who could resist?

3. Perfect Territory For Nature Lovers

Finally, if you’d prefer the quiet life, Niagara Falls is ideal for nature lovers. You’ll find dozens of picturesque hiking trails around the Niagara Glen Nature Reserve and Devil’s Hole State Park, which will lead you to phenomenal views of the rushing river rapids, through complex cave systems, right out onto tranquil picnic spots.

Heading just 10 minutes north of the Fallsview area though, you’ll stumble across the stunning botanical gardens. Not only is this home to the exotic Butterfly Conservatory where over 2,000 tropical inhabitants are available for you to photograph, but you’ll find the world-famous rose gardens here too.

Will you be going to Niagara Falls this year?
