Luxury travel is not something that we can all afford to do and even though the opposite is often far more exciting than a pampered journey away, there are times that a dose of luxury is required. Money is usually the dominant factor here and even for those that can afford a journey filled with luxurious experiences, we very rarely want to part with cash on such fanciful things. As I said however, a little piece of luxury here and there can work wonders and here a 4 ways that you can sprinkle a little bit of it on your travels.
The Last Supper
One thing I always like to do, on the final night of my journey, is to eat somewhere very upmarket and delicious. I always like to eat in nice places and will do exactly that during my travels but the last night is where I will really go all out. I often plan this before I leave home by researching online for the best restaurants in my destination, the Michelin Guide is great for this and I have eaten in some phenomenal places. The beauty of planning before you go is that you can often see the menu and have an idea for how much to set aside for you Last Supper. What better way to finish a trip than with some amazing cuisine.
Receiving an upgrade on your trip is not by any means a certainty but I have had a good success rate in the past with this. The most important thing here is asking the question. When you check into to your flight, ask the member of staff at the check-in desk if there are any upgrades available, they may not be free but often they’ll have some space in a better class for a smaller fee. Do the same thing when you get to your hotel, this is where I’ve had most success and some of the rooms that I’ve been upgraded to have been beautiful and often for more than a 50% discount. The worst thing that can happen when you ask for an upgrade is that they say no, the best case scenario is that you travel in style or stay in an even better hotel room than you thought, so it’s well worth asking the question!
Transfer in Style
Something else I like to do, to make me feel a bit special, is to take a chauffeur service to and from my destination airport. These services are only a little more expensive than a taxi and give you full confidence and peace of mind. Last year I was in Berlin and used a company called Blacklane, I got a text before they arrived so that as I left the plane I knew my car was waiting, a cheery man was waiting for me at arrivals and I rolled into Berlin in a beautiful black Mercedes. I did the same for the return leg and I’d recommend anyone to do the same. A little bit of luxury and personal service truly makes you feel good, what better way to start your trip.
