Flying Business Class for the First Time: A Beginner’s Guide

February 2, 2017 By anthony Leave a Comment

Source

You never forget your first time flying business class on an international flight. The champagne, the lie-flat seats, the the VIP treatment – business class is a whole new level when it comes to air travel. Like a kid in a sweet shop, it’s difficult to decide whether you’d rather sleep in your lie-flat bed or sit up and order just about everything from the menu.

But it can also be a little bit daunting if you have no idea what to expect, so here are a few things to know before you book your flights.

Booking Business Class Flights

If you want to fly business class for the first time but can’t justify the price tag, you’ll be pleased to know that there are companies offering unlisted fares that are much more affordable than booking online. SkyClub.com sells cheap business class tickets privately to customers – just give them a call and they’ll usually quote a better fare.

Dress Code

These days the dress code for flying business class tends to be rather relaxed so you can wear pretty much anything, but ‘smart casual’ tends to be the general consensus amongst airlines. If you’ve paid top dollar for a business class ticket it’s unlikely they’d comment on what you’re wearing – just don’t attempt to board the plane barefoot or wearing a T-shirt that displays offensive language.

Pre-flight

Airlines like Virgin Atlantic and Emirates offer business class customers a chauffeur driven car service to whisk you to the airport in style. Virgin Atlantic even has its own Upper Class Terminal so you can get from the curbside to the lounge within minutes!

Business class comes with a whole host of perks such as extra luggage allowance, dedicated check-in desks, priority lanes and lounge access, so try to make full use of your time at the airport.

Lounges

Some airlines have dedicated lounges while others will make use of another airline’s lounge, so check what lounges you have access to.

Inside the lounge you can usually help yourself to drinks and snacks, take a shower, connect to Wi-Fi and even enjoy a full a la carte meal before you board the plane. If you fly business class on British Airways for instance then you can enjoy a free treatment in the Elemis Travel Spa so you’re fully relaxed before heading to the gate.

In-flight

Once you board the aircraft that’s when things really get exciting. Forget about cramped seats and plastic trays – business class is all about flat-bed seats and proper tableware!

Most international business flights these days have private suite-like pods where you can stretch out and relax. The seats tend to have lots of buttons and little storage spaces, so if you’re not quite sure what everything does, don’t be afraid to ask! Usually a member of cabin crew will come round the cabin before take-off to offer you a glass of champagne or juice and a newspaper.

The amenity kit is always a real treat, and will usually contain things like luxury skincare products, perfume, an eye mask, toothbrush and toothpaste. In business class on Qatar Airways you’re even presented with luxury pyjamas from The White Company so you can get really comfy during the flight.

After take-off you’ll be served a multi-course meal accompanied by a selection of fine wines and spirits. You can indulge in as many things as you like, so the food and drinks will keep on coming. Some airlines will let you dine on demand, while others will have a set meal time.

If you’re travelling on an overnight flight and just want to sleep then you can use the express service where you’ll be served a light meal and a flight attendant will wake you up just before landing.

But if you’ve never flown business class before it’s likely you’ll be too excited to sleep, so you might want to spend the flight watching movies. Forget peering into a tiny screen – in business class you’ll have an ultra-large flat screen TV complete with noise cancelling headphones for your own private cinema-style experience.

Arrival

On arrival sometimes you’ll have access to an arrivals lounge where you can take a shower or have your clothes pressed before a meeting. As a business class customer your bags will usually come off the plane first and if you’re travelling through a major airport you may have your own priority lane when you get to customs and immigration. It’s always best to check with your particular airline though before you fly.

Flying business class for the first time is such an experience and one that you won’t forget in a hurry. It may be more expensive than an economy ticket but if you can collect air miles or purchase a discounted ticket then it’s truly worth it just for a decent night’s sleep and a memorable journey.

How To make your money last longer when travelling

January 13, 2017 By anthony Leave a Comment

SAMSUNG CSC

As a regular traveler, there’s one thing I hear over and over again – I don’t have enough money to travel.

Now, as any good nomad knows, traveling is never something that’s restricted by money. No matter how much or how little you have to spend, there’s always a way to hit the road and experience a new culture.

What most mean when they say they ‘wish they had the money to travel,’ is that they wish they were able to travel smarter. Here’s a quick guide to teach you how to make those necessary savings in order to ensure the trip of a lifetime.

Establish Your Budget

Before you start planning, investigating destinations and attempting to book flights and accommodation, it’s essential to have a clear estimate of your budget. One of the biggest pitfalls holidaymakers face is misjudging their finances and ending up out of pocket. Even if you have nothing to your name other than a passport, making sure you have an in-depth understanding of your monetary situation is the first step to any successful trip.

Once you have a clear idea of how much expendable income you have, the next is to establish your priorities:

Do you have to have luxurious accommodation or can you opt for a cheaper hostel?

Are first-class flights essential or can you handle the trip in coach?

Asking yourself these questions give you a clear base from which you can then search for the appropriate savings, in order to perfectly customize your trip to your own requirements

Avoid The Tourist Traps

Let’s face it: the most famous attractions come with the heftiest price tags. This is often where most make the mistake of parting with large sums of cash because there seemingly isn’t to be an alternative. However, to the experienced eye, it soon becomes clear that most of these admission fees are truly scandalous when compared to the actual experience.

For example: The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona is one of the world’s most well-known landmarks. Famed for it’s extravagant design, which remains unfinished to this day, it will set you back a whopping €29 to visit the significantly less impressive interior. However, you can experience the monument in all its glory -and take the essential selfie – for absolutely no charge, by simply wandering around the outside walls.

This situation is also often the case for tours and excursions. There are many trips available that offer customers transport to top attractions. However, regularly it’s significantly cheaper to make your own way there. Keeping an eye out for these kinds of tourist traps is one of the easiest ways to make your money go further.

Hit Up The Sales

The travel industry is awash with businesses attempting to attract more guests to their establishments. As a thrifty traveler, you can make incredible savings by keeping up with the top names in travel and capitalizing on their sales. This way, you can cut the costs without having to sacrifice quality and luxury.

For those looking to book now, one of the best current offers available is the annual sale by the Corinthia Hotels. If you head across to their website from the 11th January to the 28th of February 2017, you can receive an incredible 50% off on their top locations. This includes five* hotels in Lisbon, Prague, St. Petersburg, Budapest and Malta. They also are doing a bonus offer of 30% off their exclusive London flagship venue, for those looking for the very best!

Live Like The Locals

Once you’ve found great savings on your accommodation and itinerary, the only thing left is to slash all those miscellaneous costs that unavoidably come with travel. By far the best tactic here is to learn to live like the locals! These people have been searching for the best ways to cut costs in their native country for their whole lives – so who better to take a few tips from.

Here are a few ideas for elements of your trip that could benefit from local advice.

  • Places to eat. As well as being able to recommend good value restaurants, locals also have the best insights into the shops and markets that offer deals on food for even more savings. You can even try your hand a cooking a local recipe!
  • Getting around. Every city has its unique public transport system. Knowing whether it’s cheaper to take the bus, train, tram, taxi or even underground is knowledge that all city dwellers gain at a young age. Ask around to find the best option for you!
  • I’ve already briefly covered tourist traps; this falls into the same category. Instead of heading straight for them, investigate what local’s do for fun in the city. Not only will you save money, you’ll enjoy a much more authentic experience.
  • Local Rates. It’s a poorly kept secret that many country’s charge different prices for foreigners and natives. While there’s not foolproof way around this, if you manage to befriend some locals you may find yourself eligible to the discounts they enjoy!

It cannot be said enough times: money should never dictate your ability to travel. These tips are only a few of the infinite ways to side step your financial restrictions and enjoy the adventure of a lifetime. If you have any more handy hints for fellow travelers, be sure to leave a comment below with your ideas!

Don’t Miss These Hikes In Malta

January 4, 2017 By anthony Leave a Comment

1

There are so many great and famous hikes around the world that most would not even consider Malta when planning a vacation. However, this little archipelago is home to a wide range of beautiful treks and day trips, which offer both geographical and cultural wonders.

These four hikes are some of the best in Malta and are a great way for visitors to get a holistic experience of this beautiful country

Dingli Cliffs

2

The Dingle Cliffs are one of the most picteresque and popular trails in Malta. Their popularity not only relies on their natural beauty, but also on the rural nature of the surrounding countryside. The cliffs offer a large variety of options for all abilities. There are gentle slopes with a pleasant cafe at the end or much longer, full day, hike options that will provide challenge for more experienced hikers.

All of these routes can be found a short walk from Dingli town itself, which has frequent bus links from Rabat, Valletta and St Julians.  As well as the hiking opportunities, there are also sites of prehistoric interest along the cliffs, which provide a fascinating short break. As well as these Bronze Age sites, the cliffs also include a small church dedicated to Mary Magdalene, at the highest point in all of Malta. As you can imagine, this church offers spectacular views to the surrounding areas.

Valletta City Walk

3

Although when thinking of hiking we automatically picture wide open spaces and isolation, Malta also offers a great capital city. These hiking tours not only create an opportunity to take in the amazing views on foot, they also include a huge amount of culture for those willing to take on the historic city of Valletta on foot.

One of the most popular of these tours is  ‘Malta’s Medeival Capital’ tour. Starting in the Upper Barracca Gardens, it begins by showing you the opulence of the world’s deepest harbour and takes you through a tour of the city and of Malta’s fascinating history. If you fancy being more independent on your hike around Valletta, there are a large range of tours that you can download and complete on your own.

Using these virtual walks will not only give you a wider insight into the culture of the place but it will also give you the opportunity to see the capital of Malta as a local. You might come across a hidden cafe or a beautiful view you can’t imagine isn’t in the guide books, either way it will show you the beauitful city of Valletta as you never would have before.

Golden Bay to Bahrija

For hikers who are looking for a bit more challenge on their holiday to Malta, this 6 mile hike from Golden bay to Bahrija could be just the thing. Starting in the holidaymakers hotspot, this hike travels south along the coast path towards the small town of Bahrija. Due to the high altitude of this village, hiking is ideal, although a bit of a challenge.

The brisk north winds combined with the sunshine means offers a truly refreshing and scintiallating walk up to some spectacular views. The panorama from Bahrija allows the dedicated hiker to see around Northern Mata as well as the South West of Gozo. On really clear days Sicily can even be seen in the distance. Bahrija has two churches, one of which is still in use and dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours. There are celebrations held here on the 11th November. They include adults giving gifts of dried fruit and mixed nuts to the children, ideal snack food after the trek up to the churches.

Comino Circuit

4

Comino is the smallest of Malta’s three main islands and this is much of its charm. Being only 3.5 square kilometers the island is mostly uninahabited, having only one hotel. The main draw for the area is the blue lagoon, which is very popular in summer for day trippers as it has excellent snorkelling and windsurfing opportunities.

Here, there is also the same historical signifance that surrounds all of Malta. This island was inhabited during the Roman period as well as being used as hunting ground by The Knights of Malta. For hikers this island is a paradise; it has no main roads or, aside from the hotel, private areas and hikers can essentially go where they please. This gives visitors the opportunity to take in and marvel at the atmosphere of the place which is only helped by the scent of wild thyme and herbs that the lack of cars or urban life allows to waft right across the island.

For such a small country, Malta is the hikers dream. It supports a range of difficulties and, perhaps what is so individual to this spectacular place, a incredibly ecclectic range of locations and backgrounds for your hikes. Whether you fancy a short morning walk ending in a goreous restaurant, something to break up the beach days or even an adventure on a new island that’s like nowhere you’ve ever been, Malta has it to offer in spades.

If you have been on one of these hikes or you’ve found your own individual hiking expreience in Malta then leave a comment below to let us know.

An Insider Guide to Morzine: Where to Ski, Stay and Eat

December 27, 2016 By anthony Leave a Comment

As well as being a popular ski resort, Morzine is a proper little alpine town that has a life that goes far beyond what happens on the slopes. There is so much to this town that you should definitely do your research before you go.

Luckily, in this article I will share with you how you can enjoy the thrilling slopes and the lively après-ski scene all while staying in gorgeous, chic accommodation.

Some Basics About Morzine

Morzine has been winter ski resort since before the first world war, it used to be a place where wealthy guests would go to spend the winter and enjoy skating on the frozen lake and skiing in the rolling pastures. Nowadays, Morzine is considered the capital of the 650km Portes du Soleil, the largest international ski area in Europe.

Where Is It?

Morzine is located in the Haute Savoie region of France. Only an hour away from Geneva airport, it is one of the most accessible ski resorts, especially for Brits!

When’s the Best Time to Ski?

Choosing when to head for the slopes can be a difficult decision. Have no fear, Morzine is as good in summer as it is in winter, so here is a quick break down of what the slopes are like, month by month.

January is a very underrated month; most people have gone back to school and work after the Christmas break so the slopes are almost empty and you don’t need to worry about lift queues. The weather is usually pretty cold, but really, this just makes for the best snow conditions.

February is not such a quiet month, the school holidays in France begin! While those with children will be restricted, it is important to note that accommodation is often booked months in advance.

March is slightly warmer and the sun comes out for longer each day. The snow quality may not be the best but is still a popular month.

April is the snowiest month owing to the spring showers. The weather is great for long and relaxing lunches in the sun and the slopes are fairly quiet. It’s also a great time to grab an end-of-season deal!

May, June, July and August are the summer months, the weather is hotter and the outdoor activities are booming. You might find skiing a bit harder in the summer months!

http://www.freeimages.com/photo/from-the-sky-1517053

September is when the rain starts, the temperature starts to cool down but it is still great for outdoor activities.

Just in case you were thinking of going in October and November, be warned, most places are closed and taking a break in preparation for the winter season. The whole resort will be very quiet, the lifts will be closed and the weather will be getting colder and wetter.

The Best Slopes

No matter what level of skier you are, if you know where to go, the skiing in Morzine is superb. The top of the lift system goes all the way up to 2466m, although as many people know, this isn’t always a guarantee of good conditions.

Intermediate level skiers will love how much they can explore the valleys and slopes while based in Morzine. The variety of choices is huge and ranges from open slopes up high to lovely tree-lined runs lower down. Those more advanced skiers can easily find themselves a challenge nearby with the the Swiss Wall, as well as the steep off-piste descents from Les Haut Forts down to Les Prodains. Last but by no means least, beginners will find themselves well-catered for too by a combination of excellent British ski schools and some fantastic nursery slopes.

It’s Not All About the Slopes

Although it seems unlikely that you’ll be going on a skiing holiday if you don’t want to ski, it can happen. Maybe you’re going away with friends but are thinking you’ll spend your time enjoying the local life than skiing. Morzine is a great choice for those families and groups where not everyone wants to ski. With a great selection of slopes for the skiers and a huge choice of other activities for everyone else, Morzine has it all.

Some of the other activities that don’t involve you tumbling down a snowy hill include ice skating on a world class ice rink, relaxing in a spa or ice diving in a frozen lake! In the summer months there are activities like mountain biking, paragliding, golfing, fishing and canyoning.

Accommodation

Morzine has a very wide range of accommodation options, and people with every budget and style will be able to find something to suit them. There are three main types of accommodation available in Morzine:

Chalets

The most classic of all the accommodation options, people normally assume chalets are only for large groups, but there are stunning Morzine chalets available for every size of party. Chalet can either come self-catered, which is of course when you purchase all of your own food, or they come with a meal package. You will have your own chalet host, who will prepare meals, drinks and snacks for your party each day. Not only is this a way to get a bit of luxury, it will likely save you money too, as food in the French Alps is notoriously expensive.

A chalet will be the only accommodation option that will give you a log burning fire, which is a quintessential skiing stereotype, but one that people will love to take advantage of. If you want a traditional ski trip accommodation, choose a chalet and enjoy an alpine feel with wood and checked fabrics aplenty.

Apartments

An apartment is a good way to lower costs for smaller parties- though don’t assume ‘apartment’ means an ugly block of flats! Apartments are most frequently self-catering, and tend to be in the centre of Morzine too, so they’re very close to all the amenities.

Hotels

Often a pricier choice, hotels are the option to go for if you don’t want the hassle of doing anything for yourself. You can occasionally find a good deal, but bear in mind there’s nowhere to cook your own meals so you’ll need to rely on pricier resort food during your stay.

Food

There are so many excellent places to eat in Morzine, it’s difficult to highlight just a few.

For cheap and cheerful food, try Mamma’s for main meals, and Le Schuss Creperie for snacks and iconic French crepes. Barbecue is also a firm favourite in Morzine, and places such as La Paika and the Inferno Terrace Restaurant are well loved for their food.

If you’re looking for fine dining, try L’Atelier- it’s achieved a coveted Michelin star and offers both taster menus and delicious meat and fish options.

There’s no shortage of delicious meal options at all prices- so whether you’re on a budget or are ready to splash out, your tummy will be satisfied.

With this guide, you’re ready to take to the slopes of Morzine and have a fabulous ski trip! Whether you’re on a big or small budget, and prefer an adventurous holiday or a quiet one, you’ll love what Morzine has to offer you and your loved ones.

Buddhist_monks_in_front_of_the_Angkor_Wat

Cambodia

Angkor Wat is perhaps the most popular attraction in the country. This is part of a temple complex that will require several days for you to explore. Visiting such will remind you of the game Temple Run. Away from Siem Reap, there are also other places that you can visit. If you love the beach, two of the most popular destinations are Sinahoukville and Koh Rong. The latter is a remote island, so expect that developments are at minimum. It is also cheap, which makes it a popular destination for backpackers.

Top three things to see and do in Rome this winter

December 15, 2016 By anthony Leave a Comment

2238166303_350c60c9fa_b

When most people plan a winter getaway, they think of snow-capped mountains and cosy wooden cabins, but city breaks can be just as enjoyable if you know where to go. One of the most popular winter destinations these days is Rome, and with so much on offer, it isn’t hard to see why. We’ve put together our top things to see and do to save you some time when you decide to head there this season.

  1. Visit the attractions it’s famous for

All the locals say that the best time to visit places like the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill are during the winter months. Why? Because there are nowhere near the number of tourists compared to the rest of the year.

There will be no waiting around in queues or getting frustrated with crowds, so try to take in as many of these sites as possible during your stay. From the Sistine Chapel and the Pantheon, to when you stop for a gelato on the Spanish Steps, you’ll be able to marvel at the beautifully preserved ancient architecture and relics in peace.

  1. Take in an opera

With a city so rich in history and culture, it’s not surprising that one of Rome’s favourite past times is indulging in the art of music. From classical concerts and operas, to elegant ballets, you’ll be able to find a jam-packed schedule of events over the winter season.

Whether you’re heading there for New Year and you want to catch their famous annual concert, or you’re itching to watch an opera to rid you of January blues, just make sure you book your tickets before they all sell out. These are incredibly popular events, so head over to Rome Opera Tickets to reserve your seat.

  1. Write a new recipe book

If you’re a lover of gastronomy whose favourite part about winter is the comfort food, you’ll feel right at home in Rome this season. For one thing, you’ll be surrounded by all the treats that Italy is famous for, including a pizza parlour on every corner, not to mention plenty of gelato vendors. During the winter months though, you’ll find that it’s Panettone and frappe that are the most popular sweet treats around, while you can get delicious hot bowls of Pasta e ceci (pasta and chickpeas) and minestra (vegetable and pasta soup) for lunch.

There will be plenty of food markets for you to make your way around too, where you can pick up cooking tips from the locals. Touching down at the airport after a long flight is a relief. There are several important things to do after going through passport control and receiving baggage.

Firstly, check that all important documents and luggage are in place. People can lose passports as they are moving through the airport, and sometimes bags are forgotten about.

Secondly, consult an online map to find the quickest route to the final destination. This will ensure that the place where people are staying can be found and that no-one will get lost. Thirdly, it is a good idea to ring ahead to the final destination (whether that is a hotel or a friend’s house) to let them know that arrival is imminent. Next, if travelling with young children it can be a good idea to find a shop nearby and buy food and water for the little ones because they could be hungry or thirsty after the flight.

Last but not least, people need to be able to quickly and conveniently get hold of a hire car so they can get to their destination. It is important for people to look for ways to save time and money when they rent a car in Perth. Read about how to make this final step incredibly easy.

Book Well In Advance

Flying from one side of the country to the other in order to visit relatively can be an extremely draining experience. People want maximum convenience when they arrive at the airport, so make sure to book Perth airport car hire at www.acerent.com.au well in advance of the trip. This will save people the stress of having to sort out transport when they are at the airport.

Not booking a car can waste lots of time and money when people would much rather be safely at their relative’s house with their feet up.

Booking in advance can also be useful if changes need to be made to the itinerary. For example, someone may fall ill before a trip is due to take place. If this happens, ringing up the car hire company to change or cancel a booking is incredibly simple and won’t take up much time.

Use Cost Comparison Websites

When searching for the best deal on car hire, people shouldn’t just pick the first company they come across. Instead, it is a better idea to use price comparison websites in order to find the perfect deal. The websites will give a full breakdown of the type of rental which is offered. Using these sites is a good way for people to save money for when they are going on holiday – the money can then be spent on other things like delicious food or exciting entertainment options.

Look For Special Offers

Some rental companies will offer special deals, which will potentially save people a large amount of money. These offers will usually appear around the time of special occasions such as Christmas and Easter.

There are lots of websites dedicated to displaying coupons and special offers. Use these websites in order to track down the latest deals and discounts on car hire. Ultimately, the money saved on car hire with these discounts could be spent on presents for relatives.

Hopefully, this guide has given people a good idea of what to do after arriving at the airport.
