5 Australian Music Festivals You Must Visit Before You Die

November 22, 2016 By anthony Leave a Comment

If you want to know which are the best music festivals in Australia then have no fear, we archer to help. During our time in Australia a couple of years ago we committed ourselves very much to the ‘fun’ lifestyle, something that is incredibly easy to do as there is always, and we mean always, something going on for you to take part in including epic music festivals. With the sun always shining, Australia is a perfect country to pass a day, night or weekend sinking some drinks, dancing with friends and enjoying some of the World’s best live music draped in summer clothing and your Oakley sunglasses. If you in Australia or are planning to visit soon and want to party then here are 5 Aussie music festivals that you simply cannot die without visiting.

Rainbow Serpent

Rainbow_Serpent_Festival

This open-air trance event in Lexton Victoria is on the verge of celebrating it’s 20th anniversary of heart-pounding, bass-pumping festivals. The festival celebrates all things electronic, from dance,, garage, drum and bass to trap, trip-hop and trance and is the only place that you should go in Australia to experience a crazy dance music weekend. The festival takes place on the weekend of Australia Day which gives the festival an even greater cause to celebrate.

Burning Seed

Burning Seed takes place between Sept 26 and Oct 3rd in a week long festival that mimics the famous Burning Man festival which takes place in San Francisco. The festival is more than just a music festival, it is an effort to create togetherness to inspire creativity and to promote spirituality. The music is phenomenal, the art is incredible, the vibe is unbelievable and the people are magical. Burning Seed is a festival that you will not find anywhere else in Oz and you should most certainly experience it before you perish.

The Town

The Town festival was created by a group of people who decided that the World was simply too boring. To counter such boredom they decided to create a fully functioning village dedicated to all things musical and theatrical. The ‘town’ exists around 2 hours outside Melbourne in the midst of an enchanting forest and within it’s walls it offers live music shows, drama tents, live plays and a whole host of other wild and crazy dramatics throughout the town. You may not see famous musicians here but nor will you see the face of boredom.

Splendour in the Grass

This annual music festival takes place in late July in Byron Bay, NSW and is arguably the biggest music fest in Australia. The festival dates back to 2001 and in the last 15 years has grown tremendously. The festival focusses primarily on rock and indie music but isn’t afraid of sprinkling in a rapper or an EDM act or two to keep things interesting. The event takes place across 3 days and is the best place to celebrate a Winter music festival.

Bendigo

2013-4-1-minghui-falun-gong-melbourne-04

The Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival does exactly what it says on the tin, a celebration of the birth of music through it’s truest and most original styles. The festival takes place on the first weekend of November and attracts some of the World’s finest musicians from genres such as folk, blues, bluegrass, reggae and jazz. If this type of music is your scene then you will have an awesome time here, if it isn’t then I would still recommend you to go and enjoy some truly beautiful music in a truly beautiful setting. No grand light shows or dancers here, just great music and great fun.

5 Valuable Tips for New Global Travellers

November 21, 2016 By anthony Leave a Comment

norway-772991_960_720

Many who are at a crossroads in their life pack their bags and head overseas. Travelling can change some people’s lives but, for those who have not travelled before, it can be extremely daunting. Whether you are travelling alone, or with friends, there are some questions that you need answering.

Have I Got the Correct Visa?

Those who live within European Union countries are free to roam throughout the EU as they please. However, if this does not include you or your destinations, you will need the correct visa for your travels. Countries have different visas depending on your activities when visiting which, for newbie travellers, tends to be working, studying, or simply tourism. It is imperative that you have the correct visa you need when travelling and it is best to get everything sorted months in advance.

The easiest way to research the visa you will need is to take to Google, and visit a government website for the country you will be heading to. Usually, you can apply online.

What If I Have an Emergency Abroad?

Before you head abroad you need to be prepared for every eventuality. Chances are, your travels will go without a blip but, isn’t it best to be prepared in case of an emergency? There are a number of international travel insurance plans available that can be tailored to your specific requirements.

Comprehensive expat travel insurance policies ensure that you are protected. Whether you need emergency medical treatment, or have had your bag stolen, travel insurance means you will be safe and secure at all times. Accidents and scary situations can happen during your travels and having the correct insurance policy will save you a lot of fear and stress.

How Much Gear Should I Take?

Whether you are travelling to Guatemala or Hong Kong, the rule of thumb is to pack light. As a new traveller, the tendency is to pack for any eventuality even though you know lugging around an overloaded backpack isn’t practical. To save yourself from this, buy a rucksack that is on the smaller side – this will ensure you are only packing the essentials. Even if you are trekking into the deepest uninhabited rainforest, you will come across civilisation at some point, and this is when you can stock up or purchase necessities. Remember, even if you are travelling solo, you will make friends along the way and they will be more than willing to help you out if you need something.

How Much Money Should I Take?

Budgeting for your adventure will depend on how you plan on living during your time away. Australia and New Zealand tend to be a little more expensive, whereas you can happily get by on $15 a day in Asian countries. Hostels and food costs will vary from location to location but, once you have a budget in place, try and stick to it as best you can. Scour the internet for advice, there are a number of forums and guides that will be able to help you based on the specific country you are visiting.

However, always take a substantial monetary cushion. You may have a last-minute change of heart and want to fly to a specific island or there may be an emergency that eats into your funds. Even if you are the greatest planner in the world, there will always be something that could potentially knock your budget, so it is best to have a back-up fund.

Will I Get Home Sick?

Yes. Unless you have a heart made of ice, you will miss your family and friends. Having a mobile phone and occasional access to Skype will make things a little easier and, let’s not forget you will be exploring! Missing home is natural but what you must remember is, there will be many people in your destination that will be feeling exactly the same. If you have gone abroad with a friend, excellent, but also make sure to reach out to the vast network of travellers you are sharing the location with. Speaking to other globetrotters will help ease the pain of missing home and give you the chance to create new relationships.

How to Reduce the Cost of a Lengthy Trip Abroad

November 16, 2016 By anthony Leave a Comment

Lost_Coast_backpacking

Would you like to spend a long period of time travelling, working or living in another country? If so, it’s vital to be aware of the financial implications of such a life changing decision. However, if you take control of your finances and prepare properly, you can greatly reduce the cost of such a move. Below are some ways you can do this.

Research Your Destination

It’s never been as easy as it is now to research any location in the world. Countless websites, forums, blogs and mobile apps contain all the information you will ever need about almost every country, city, town or village on the planet. You should be able to easily find out what the cost of living is like in a particular place, how much it costs to get there, accommodation costs and other expenses that you will have to pay for when you reach your destination.

Make Connections before Leaving

Local knowledge is invaluable when you move to a new location. This is why you should make contact with friends, family members and people who have previously lived in the place you intend to go to, or people who currently live there. These people will be able to guide you in the right direction and you could avoid making many costly mistakes.

Get Qualified

If you intend to work for a certain period of time in your host country, it’s essential to have the appropriate qualifications and experience that will allow you to start working in a higher paid position quickly. In other situations, you may want to obtain a certain qualification before you leave home or while you’re away.

Online courses provided by leading educational institutions like Arizona State University offer you the perfect solution. For instance, if you want to get an online nursing degree, you can study for this degree at times that suit you. Even if you have not completed this type of online accelerated nursing program, you can finish it when you get to your new temporary home. This then gives you the opportunity to apply for better positions once you graduate.

Rent Your Home While You’re Away

If you’re a home owner, the mortgage on your property still needs to be paid. Instead of leaving your house or apartment abandoned till you return, consider renting it. This will reduce your monthly outgoings and prevent your home from deteriorating because people will be living in it.

Save Before You Leave

Things can go wrong, so it’s important to save as much money as possible before you set off on your new adventure. In the months leading up to your departure, you should look at ways to reduce your spending so that you have enough money for your voyage.

Moving to another location can be expensive, especially in the beginning. However, if you follow the tips above, you can reduce the cost of a lengthy trip abroad and live a much more enjoyable and fulfilling life while you are there

5 Weekend Getaways in the UK

November 15, 2016 By anthony Leave a Comment

A591_road,_Lake_District_-_June_2009_Edit_1

Weekend getaways are what give meaning to working all week. Planning a weekend getaway doesn’t have to be expensive or elaborate, it just has to be something that you enjoy doing and we’re here to give you a few ideas of things to do on your next weekend getaway.

Book a Hotel for a Bit of Luxury and Pampering

If you have had an excessively hard week, you may be in need of a little tender loving care, and what better way to achieve that than a night or two in a hotel where you are waited on hand and foot; no cleaning, cooking, or chauffeuring anyone around. If this sounds like the kind of weekend that you need, consider the Scarborough area, there are some beautiful hotels near Scarborough at affordable rates that offer a wide array of amenities.

Water and Beach Side Activities

Watergate Bay just north of Newquay offers some of the best water sports and activities in the area including:

  • Surfing
  • Paddle-surfing
  • Kite-surfing

Or if you prefer something a little less active, let the kiddies take a surfing lesson while you relax at one of the beach-side spas.

Escape Technology

For those who just need to get away from everything Carmarthenshire, Wales is for you. This hidden valley has no mobile signal making it the perfect place to escape. For only around £200 you can book a week at one of the two cottage style inns; Mill Stream Cottage or The Wren’s Nest.

Stay on a Boat in the Capital

One of the most unique UK weekend getaways is the City Boat in London. Located near the Tower of London, this 1930’s coal barge has been refurbished into a completely modern houseboat that is decorated with up to date architectural detailing, and a modern industrial décor. Because the environment is so lavish, you won’t feel like you are in the heart of one of the busiest cities in the world; all you will feel is peaceful relaxation and indulgence.

Take a trip to Scotland

Spend a weekend in a Hobbit inspired Scottish bunkhouse that sleeps up to eight. Sleep in the bunkhouse, but spend your day kayaking, hiking, and climbing along the base of the Monadhliath Mountains as you wonder the highlands of Scotland.

Get your Farmer’s Tan on

Live as the farmers do when you explore Beechenhill Farm. This is the ideal family retreat for families with active children. You and your family will get to experience feeding the chickens, milking the cows, and an assortment of other duties required on a daily bases in order to run this organic farm. Don’t forget to partake in the scrumptious breakfast and Sue’s adventure Maps for the full farming experience.

A weekend getaway can be whatever you want it to be, whether you enjoy camping, the beach, or just finding unique hideaways in the heart of the city. It doesn’t really matter what you do, as long as you find something that you enjoy and go do it.

5 Reasons To Book a Cruise (Regardless Of Your Age)

November 15, 2016 By anthony Leave a Comment

cruise-ship-778533_960_720

You may be able to think of a million reasons why a cruise is not for you, from seasickness, to pirates. But, don’t let your fears keep you from what could be the experience of a lifetime. Here are five reasons why you should book a cruise regardless of your age – because cruises really are for all lovers of travel!

Value

Cruises were the original all-inclusive vacation destination. What is included in your package depends on which cruise line you travel with, however most cruise packages include food, accommodations, transportation, and both day and evening entertainment in the fare at a fraction of the cost that you would pay when booking a traditional trip.

In addition to all that is included in your cruise fare, there is also the quality aspect of the overall value. Since cruise lines buy in bulk and have experts do the purchases and planning you get the added benefit of each piece of your trip being managed by a professional.

Convenience

Most cruises hit more than one destination. The great part about this is you get to not only enjoy the travel time doing things you like to do, but don’t have to lug around a suit case and sit in uncomfortable seats on a plane or train while getting to your next destination. Convenience makes it an easy option for you to go on a cruise around the world.

Great for the Whole Family

Cruises offer activities for individuals of any age, making them perfect for those groups or families that have multiple generations to keep occupied. It is an easy way to have everyone in the same general area while allowing each person or pod to go do something they enjoy while you do something you enjoy.

Variety

All cruises are not the same. There is a wide range of cruise types available, everything from singles cruises, to family cruises, to river cruises. This provides you with more options than you had ten or fifteen years ago when selecting the right cruise for you. Not only are their different types of cruises. There are different length cruises that range from three days to three weeks, making your options nearly endless.

Floating Cities

Cruise ships are basically floating cities. So, you can always get whatever you may need when you are at sea or in port abroad. When traveling the traditional way you may not have access to these same amenities, services, or products. This makes cruise travel the easiest to deal with for those who are nervous about being away from home and their normal comfort items.

Planning a vacation is one of those things that you both enjoy and dread at that same time; between costs, booking hotels, travel and transportation, and attempting to figure out what your daily expenses for food and entertainment will be it can be overwhelming. Cruise travel is one of the easiest ways to book a fun filled, relaxing vacation without all of the stress and extensive planning.

How to Enjoy a Winter in France as a Family

November 15, 2016 By anthony Leave a Comment

Short-term-rentals-Les-collons-Les-Marmottes_1

Winter time in France is an experience to enjoy, with wine, skiing, and amazing mountain chalet views what more could anyone ask for when spending the winter months with family? Consider a stay on one of the catered ski chalets for some winter time family fun. Just remember to bring your warm clothes and a cozy snuggle buddy for those chilly nights and brisk mornings.

Chalet Le Char

This 52-acre park has more than enough outdoor play area for your children to exhaust themselves with snowball fights, sledding, and snowman building competitions; and then when they come in the fun continues in the loft playroom. They will keep themselves entertained for hours allowing the adults to have some much needed relaxation time of their own. Then when it is time for dinning and settling in for the night, you will be surrounded by elegance in the mansion estate.

Le Chateau de St Louis Keep

Although the 14th century castle was once a dungeon that was used to house the King of France, Jean le Bon, when the “Black Prince” had him imprisoned, you would never know that this was once used to imprison royalty. The ten bedroom castle has its own lake and is surrounded by a moat, making it the ideal location for secluded family time or a major family event such as a winter wedding.

Demeure de Marbougett

Set in the center of the Gers in Aquitaine regions in the South of France, this chateau offers exquisite services, as well as an impressive wine cellar. The beautiful scenery and the lavish décor make the Demeure de Marbougett the perfect winter holiday retreat for celebrating the Christmas holidays away from the hustle and bustle of home.

Chalet Cache

For the family who enjoys kicking up some power during the day, and then kicking up their heels after a day on the slopes, Chalet Cache is your destination spot. Its ideal location set only 200m away from Chamonix high street, offers visitors an abundance of nightly activities in order to dance, drink, and get a little wild.

Chateau Lauzel

If your family’s idea of wonderful winter entertainment is more about experiencing delicious food and wine than speeding down the side of a mountain then the Chateau Lauzel is the place for you. This once medieval castle has been converted into a chateau where visitors can stay in order to explore the many world class restaurants and wine tasting experiences that are only minutes away.

Winters in France are the perfect time to get the family together and take a much needed holiday to one of the centuries old castles, chalets, or chateaus in order to spend quality family time exploring history, getting much needed exercise on one of the many downhill ski slopes, or indulging in some of the world’s finest wine and cuisines. Whatever your family’s preferences are, you are sure to find something to make everyone happy this winter at one of France’s historic winter venues.

5 Job Seeking Tips for UK Students

October 31, 2016 By anthony Leave a Comment

2769001

While the UK job sector is booming at the moment and many sectors are in dire need of fresh blood to fill vacant positions, many students are ill equipped when it comes to actually seeking jobs. While many end up graduating with top honors, they still find it hard to crack the job market and find a place to call their own. However, with a few tips it is possible for almost everybody with a sound degree to find a great job straight out of college. In this article, I’m going to give you 5 crucial tips every UK student can use to find a job after graduation.

1. Applying for Internships or Volunteer Positions

An internship is always a good place to start in the search for a job. It not only gives young people a chance to work in their chosen career, they also get invaluable experience in the process. While working as an intern, they can get to learn of potential vacancies in the company and land themselves a job. This is especially true in the healthcare sector where volunteer work is viewed in high regard. Having a few hours of volunteer work next to your doctorate in nursing practice from Bradley University on your resume is a great way to get your foot in the door and get noticed.

Voluntary work gives job seekers the chance to exercise their skills and work in a team environment. It also keeps them busy in between jobs. This is important because employers tend to be suspicious of any gaps in a resume.

2. Networking

Networks uncover hidden opportunities and give job seekers that extra edge they need to get over the unemployment hurdle. There are two networks that they can use. The first is the existing network they already have.

This includes family, friends, relatives, college classmates, and ex-colleagues if they have ever worked before. The second is the potential network they make by meeting people at various career events such as seminars and conferences.

3. Going Online

Social media platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn are increasingly becoming a good place to find a job. This is because more companies are turning to them for the recruitment of new employees. To make the most of an online job hunt, however, it is important for a person to polish up his or her online profile.

For example, a LinkedIn profile should always look professional. It should also have relevant and up-to-date information such as academic and professional qualifications as well as contact details. The privacy settings on Facebook and Twitter should also be changed to prevent potential employers from viewing embarrassing photos.

Finally, online behavior should be professional at all times. Tweets of posts which slander past employers or colleagues will only jeopardize a person’s chances of getting hired.

4. Following the Traditional Route

As old fashioned they might seem, job boards, job sites, and local papers are still a good way of finding employment. Although the process can be tedious, it eventually yields results. One downside to using such a method, however, is the likelihood of missing a job opportunity if it is not advertised or having many competitors to contend with if it is.

5. Approaching Companies Directly

Another traditional yet effective way of looking for a job is to approach companies directly to find out about any upcoming jobs. Even if there are none at the moment, a person can still be called for an interview in the future if his or her resume is impressive.

Conclusion

There is no denying the fact that for people who have just completed a DNP online, getting a job will be a hard but not impossible. They will require a thick skin, good networking skills, and a professional online profile. But if you follow the instructions given in this article, you should be able to find a great job in no time.

There are numerous ways to enjoy Val D’Isere and the following are among the very best of them. Which of these amazing activities will you be most keen to try out upon your arrival?

Enjoy the Food

There can be few more magnificent feelings in life than that of heading to a good restaurant after an exciting day of skiing. You are sure to feel really hungry after a few hours of skiing action anyway.

This means that you will be incredibly keen to head over to sample the amazing food on offer in town. The cold weather and winter sports here add up to mean that the hearty, wholesome local food is more than welcome.

The best restaurants in Val D’Isere include classy eateries such as Le Peau de Vache and Le Trifollet. If you want a good value option then you might want to consider somewhere like La Sana and Le Fruitiere.

There are numerous options for you to sample, so why not try out a few different options while you are on your break. There is a good variety of international cuisines on offer here, which will help you to have a great and varied culinary experience.

Try Out the Après Ski Scene

Perhaps a day out on the slopes will give you a thirst as well as make you hungry. If this is the case then you will be delighted to see that the town also has a thriving après ski scene.

You can take your choice here from a buzzing bar with live music or somewhere more chilled out. There is a huge selection of places to get a few drinks and enjoy some fun company.

Among the most popular après ski spots in Val D’Isere include jumping spots such as Dick’s Tea Bar and the Moris Pub. If you want to mix skiing with some social interaction then this is a fine resort in which to do so.

This town has a strong British influence and that is clearly reflected in the nightlife scene, with British style pubs dominating. You can even watch live sports or play traditional British pub sports in some of them if you feel like it.

Take Some Pictures

If you are looking for a memorable ski trip to the French Alps then you should definitely remember to take a good camera with you. This is because you will come across some stunning vistas that you will definitely want to capture for your future enjoyment.

You can find deals for Val D’Isere here, which means that you get booked quickly and easily online. After this, you will want to see how best to take advantage of the great chance this trip represents for taking unique pictures.

You can take some great photos here even if you just stay in and around the central area. However, if you really want some spectacular memories then you could head out on a ski lift to a more remote region.

Go for a Walk

There really are few better ways to get to know your travel destination than by getting out to walk. In the case of Val D’Isere, a stroll around the pretty town will help you to really feel at home here.

This French Alps resort is an extremely pretty town that has a longer history than many of the other ski resorts in this region. You will love just taking a stroll around the center and feeling the very special atmosphere that it has to offer.

If you need to work up an appetite or thirst for later on in the evening then an invigorating walk around the town will almost certainly work a treat for you. The evening is a fantastic time for doing this, as the town tends to have a buzzing, lively feel to it at this time of day.

Just remember to wrap up well before you head out to see the town in all its winter glory.

Go Shopping

Perhaps you never thought that a trip to Val D’Isere could also give you the pleasure of shopping as well as the other activities we have looked at. Yet, for many visitors the pleasure of the French Alps also contains a healthy dollop of retail therapy.

As you can imagine, the compact nature of the town means that it isn’t filled with giant malls and huge stores. However, there is enough choice here to make it a very interesting part of your trip anyway.

Most of the shops around the town offer winter sports gear and clothing, although you might also find a few nice souvenirs to take home with you as well.

Try a Spa

If you love the idea of taking a spa break then you will be pleased to see that you can combine your ski trip with some time getting pampered. The area in and around Val D’Isere has some fantastic options for enjoying a few hours in a quality spa hotel.

Of course, skiing is a relatively tough and demanding type of exercise. If this is your first time out on the pistes then you may feel that you are left feeling pretty tired and a bit stiff afterwards.

In this case, a spa break could really help you to feel on top of the world and feel as though you are ready to hit the slopes again. There is no doubt that this mixture of skiing and spa comforts could be the ideal combination for many of us.

Relax in Your Accommodation

Finally, another terrific way to end your day in Val D’Isere could be to just head back to your accommodation. Whether you prefer to stay in a hotel, a chalet or an apartment, you are almost certain to find something in this town that you love.

A popular option is to stay with friends in a ski chalet, which means that heading back here after a day of skiing is a very sociable option. Eating together in the chalet and having a few drinks as a group can be a wonderful way of ending the day on a high note.

On the other hand, what if you are alone or on a romantic trip to the French Alps? Well, in this case there is a lot to be said for having an enjoyable evening on your balcony looking at the splendid view and watching the sun go down with a glass of wine in your hand.

There is a long list of ways to enjoy Val D’Isere that every visitor should be aware of. If you head over there knowing what to expect then you will realize that a fabulous trip lies ahead.

A look at South east Asia’s temples

October 20, 2016 By anthony Leave a Comment

Screen Shot 2016-10-20 at 15.51.59

Southeast Asia is a region of the world that has no shortage of incredible and beautiful temples. The stunning architecture, sculptures and air of tranquillity within well-tended, peaceful temple grounds appeal to visitors as well as devotees alike. Here are just a few of the top temples to see in Southeast Asia.

The Temple of the Emerald Buddha – Bangkok, Thailand
The Temple of the Emerald Buddha, or Wat Phra Kaew as its known in Thai, is a magnificent temple that served as the private temple attached to the Grand Palace. It’s still used for important state occasions, but otherwise is open to the public. The tall towers and pagodas are majestic, and there are many ornate temple pavilions and sculptures. One of the buildings is home to Thailand‘s most revered religious icon, the Emerald Buddha.

Wat Chedi Luang – Chiang Mai, Thailand
This important and ancient Buddhist temple is well worth visiting. The huge towering ‘chedi’ was partially destroyed by an earthquake around 500 years ago but still dominates the temple grounds. Not only is Wat Chedi Luang completely free to enter. but there are also some small seating areas in the gardens where monks in residence offer free and informal chats about Buddhism.

Sri Mariamman Temple – Chinatown, Singapore
Founded in 1827, Sri Mariamman Temple, is a famous Hindu Temple, and the oldest in Singapore. It is located in Singapore’s Chinatown district and gets very busy at times, especially during Hindu festivals. The temple’s gopuram, or tower, is extremely ornate and consists of intricately carved figures from Hindu legend. It’s a sight to behold.

Angkor Wat – Siem Reap, Cambodia
Dating from the 12th century, Angkor Wat is the most important temple in Cambodia, and the largest religious structure in the world. It was originally a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Vishnu before being converted centuries later to serve as a Buddhist temple. The many ancient structures and moat that comprise Angkor Wat are a magnet for photographers, especially at sunset. Visit more than once if possible because the site is so vast that it needs more than a full day to do it justice.

Borobudor – Java, Indonesia
Dating from the 9th century, this Buddhist Temple is huge and consists of nine massive stacked platforms adorned with countless Buddha figures. The temple fell into disuse for years following Islam’s spread into Indonesia, but has been restored to its former glory. It is Indonesia’s most popular tourist site and is also an important site of pilgrimage for the country’s minority Buddhist population.

There are many thousands of temples throughout Southeast Asia. Although most are not nearly as famous as those listed, each has its own charm and serene atmosphere, and many are worth visiting. Keep in mind, though, that many remote temples are located on steep hillsides and you may need to walk up endless steps in tropical heat to get to them. That may explain why over 65 travel insurance is so popular among older tourists going on temple treks.

How Traveling Can Aid Your Liberal Studies Degree

October 13, 2016 By anthony Leave a Comment

gap year

There isn’t a time when traveling doesn’t broaden your horizons, giving you a better world view but when studying for a master of liberal arts online, every place you visit gives you a firsthand look into the people and cultures you are learning about. Liberal arts isn’t all about a single culture and a single people but rather a way of understanding how everything fits together into a pattern we choose to call humanity.

Liberal studies puts everything into perspective from an interdisciplinary approach and what better way to find all the pieces of the puzzle than to go on a cultural treasure hunt? Just look at what an online masters of liberal arts program focuses on and you’ll see how travelling fits the curriculum perfectly.

A People as Seen through Their Art

One of the things an archeologist looks at, for example, is the artwork primitive people leave behind. Some left renditions of life in their time on cave walls and others patterned their lives into jewelry or vases, pots and even weapons. Native American art left infinite stories behind in totems and pottery and from every relic found, a new part of a story emerges.

Traveling the world is one way to get an up-close look at the lands where these people walked, from Stonehenge in England to the Ancient Pyramids of Egypt, there’s a story everywhere. With your knowledge of cultures and a personal view of the artwork you’ve studied, you can almost ‘feel’ the culture as it evolves over the ages.

The Ultimate Goal of Liberal Studies

The ultimate goal of a liberal arts degree is to put bits of life into perspective from an interdisciplinary approach. Therefore, the humanities, the arts, languages, music and even literature all help to paint a picture of a culture as it is and as it was. Traveling the world is one way to see how people are living today while giving the student a chance to tour museums, historical sites, national landmarks and also participate in festivals and events in each locale.

What better way to gain perspective than to ‘walk the walk’ with the people of a culture? What better way to learn linguistic nuances than to speak dialects with people in various regions within a country? If the goal of liberal arts is to give perspective with an interdisciplinary approach, there is no better way to get perspective than to live it even if only for a short while.

Touring World Wonders

Think about all the wonders of the world you can see by traveling as you study? Yes, Stonehenge and the Pyramids should be on every student’s bucket list, but what about the Badlands Guardian in Alberta, Canada that is a completely natural rock formation or the ancient Incan Machu Picchu that was built somewhere in the 15th Century and abandoned within a hundred year period. Looking at an aerial view there is really no way to determine what it once was but speculation is extreme.

These are the things you can see while studying for an online masters in philosophy, the things that will give you a better look at what people did that may lead to a philosophical understanding of the ‘why.’ You can look at what people did and then postulate how that fit their culture within a timeframe. That’s what liberal studies are all about and why at some point in every student’s academic career he or she should take to the road – an education in itself.
