TDBL Roundup – April 2013

Spring is in the air and all over the blogosphere!  Isn’t it wonderful??  I had an early taste of spring this year with the bright blooms of Nottoway Plantation, just outside of New Orleans and am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the spring blooms in Ottawa!  With the Tulip Festival just around the corner here in Ottawa, the blooms will be here before we know it!

As many of you know – I had a great time in New Orleans, ticking items off my NOLA bucket list, one item at a time!  Saw some parades, taste tested my way around town and generally lived it up.  What I want to know is how on earth did I miss Mardi Gras World?  I will have to go back as Sophie’s photos clearly show: Mardi Gras World is where the magic happens!

Those that read me regularly know, I am always up for a great adventure and climbing Kilimanjaro is high on my bucket list!  I came across a great series of posts including how to prepare for when I eventually do it - Preparing to Hike Mt Kilimanjaro: More than Training & Gear.  I have only had to deal with those kinds of altitudes twice - climbing in the Everest region and the Inca Trail.  There will need to be some serious training going on for this trek!

On another note – do you give yourself travel challenges when you hit the road?  I’ve done photo challenges but never one like this from Turnip Seed Travels:  The Vermont Challenge: $200/2 people/2 days - would I be able to live up to this challenge?

Patio season in the town square, Germany

With the change in seasons comes a change in eating habits and locations!  Time to move that meal outside – who doesn’t love patio season?  What’s not to love – sitting out in the sun, sipping on wine, laughing with a few friends!  Life is always good during patio season.

This spring, my thoughts continue to focus on food…the fresh flavours of the season, cooking classes on the road….for a little spring cooking and foodie inspiration…we have Farm Cooking in Prince Edward County, Basque Cuisine in San Sebatian and Lola of Lola’s Travels having fun in the Italian kitchen!  How about a little Italian in Prague? Yum.  If walking the Camino de Santiago is on your radar…check out the Pilgrim’s Menus on the Camino de Santiago – the food alone may inspire your next 800 km walk!

While I generally write about travel destinations and bucket lists, a few travel tips and gear reviews generally feature here on Travel Destination Bucket List.  With the ever changing airline rules and fee structure adjustments, travel packing tips and carry on essentials become more and more important.  Does this affect the travel fashionista in you?  What’s your travel style?

Also slightly off the beaten track…I came across an interesting article merging the world of business and travel:  What a manager can gain from traveling!  I think this really applies to life in general.  So much to be learned on the road!

What’s new in May?  I am looking forward to introducing a new series of posts from fellow bloggers from the road.  More on that to come.  I will also be heading off to my first TBEX in Toronto – can’t wait.   Would also like to say thanks to Elle at Veni Vidi Vici for the interview…you have some awesome bucket listers in your interview series!

Tulip Festival

Well, that’s a wrap for April.  Happy Spring and Happy travels.

  5. Some good links, Anita! Especially the Kilimanjaro ones… a definite bucket list entry of my own, that one! Although it sounds flipping tough, doesn’t it?

    • I loved following Raul and his Kilimanjaro series….hope to do it one day myself as well! I don’t think flipping tough even begins to describe it…but I am sure we are both up to the task!
