TDBL Roundup – January 2013

I have been writing Travel Destination Bucket List for over a year now, and I am realizing that there is a lot of information buried down in the archives.

Thanks to Susan Wingate and her post about newsletters and The Lazy Travelers with their No Travel Required series, I thought I would incorporate a similar theme here.  It will be an end of month roundup with some of the top posts here at TDBL, as well as some other blogger’s posts I have found useful when researching new adventures and interesting.

I want you to find it as useful as I do…so please, comment on what you think…what you like and if there is anything else you would like me to add.  As everything in life…this is a work in progress and will only get better with feedback and time!

January 2013

Where has the time gone…already one month into a new year and my 2013 Travel Bucket List has not yet been finalized!  A weekend at the New York Times Travel Show certainly helped to line up a few exciting new destinations to add to the bucket list…but you will have to wait and see!  Check out the Lazy Travelers tips for first timers for the New York Times Travel Show – they have some show tips to live by!

Looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the show – check out these photos from the New York Sky Line – the people of New York really pulled it together to make this happen.  It is well worth a visit!

I haven't been everywhere...but it is on my list

I have been following Lucy of OnTheLuce and her trip to Jordan and the enchanting city of Petra – she has inspired me to no end.  How great that she has written a first timers guide to Petra to help get me started!

JMeyersForeman certainly had my mind traveling south to the sunny Caribbean with her travellers overlooking the caribbean ocean shot.  We both walked the Camino de Santiago last year – literally only a week or 2 apart!  Maybe our paths will cross again someday.  (Click here to see the Camino Series.)  Travels in Transit has me thinking back to my time in Antigua and how much I love the sun and Caribbean culture!  Perhaps another swim with the stingrays at Stingray City is in order!  She wrote about Appreciating My Own Homeland…. also has me thinking about what to do in and around my home town – Ottawa!  I am not the only one…love this link shared by AMontrealerAbroad – Canada shared by Canadians.

Earlier in January, I heard that tourism in Canada was down significantly.  In fact, 80% of our tourists are home grown….I guess we know how to keep a secret!  With that in mind, I know I will just have to share some of the amazing things we have up here near Ottawa….whether you want to experience the exhilaration of dog sledding or luxuriating in an outdoor spa, surrounded by snow or working your way through a gastronomical bucket list like the Ottawa Restaurant Bucket List – you know you can find it here!  and of course…Winterlude is just around the corner!

Travel with Kat has introduced me to FriFotos with her Cabo Verde Urban photos.  I hope to be a regular contributor.  And for a little non travel fun…I often turn to Bowie and his antics!  For some great humour….Quick Wittier – she cracked me up with one of her comments on my Australia Day post about learning the lingo and I have not looked back! Hilarious!

What’s next?  Watch out Montreal.  A luxury road trip to Montreal is on the cards.  I’ll be staying at the InterContinental’s Boutique hotel steps away from the old port.  With winter in full swing, a trip to Montreal just wouldn’t be right with out a trip to the Ice Village (a night in the ice hotel is high on my bucket list and Montreal now has a fantastic Ice Hotel, complete with fantastic bar and restaurant)!

One of the things I love most with travel blogging is meeting so many fantastic people!  I would be remiss if I didn’t mention a few of the fantastic travel bloggers I met while down at the travel show.  Check out their blogs…they all have different styles and are a wealth of travel knowledge and stories!
