Mallorca is known for its sun – tourists flock for the beaches and Mediterranean climate and cyclists such as myself make a pilgrimage her for the ideal cycling conditions. Day after day of sun is what we are looking for…and then there is the rain…
Our group divided into 2 different rides for our last day on the island. Mallorca was delivering yet again – a gorgeous morning as we rolled out to have lunch in Porto Cristo. With a beautiful tailwind and plenty of sun, our time in Spain was drawing to an end…we were off for a waterfront lunch and a great finish to our trip.
Lunch was a huge success – the food was amazing. We lingered over our wine and agreed that this was living….then it started to drizzle. Not to worry – only a little sun shower. The sky was still blue and the sun still shining. Time to hit the road – today we had a deadline – the bikes were being picked up and we had to be there on time! We rolled out of town and the heavens opened up on us! First the rain, then the torrential rain and finally, with the the massive winds and hail, we headed to find shelter.
Back in town, we agreed two would ride on to get the cars, and two of us would stay behind. As I don’t drive, I was one of the lucky ones – hot chocolate for me! J.B. and I waited in the coffee shop, dripping puddles of water on the floor and warming up near the heaters in the kitchen. More clever than I, J.B. got herself a beach towel to wrap herself in…..
as you can see, the photos here really tell the story! Has been a great adventure – rode with miles and miles of sun and luckily only a little rain….time to move on now – we are headed to Barcelona to experience a little more of Spain.
