Beach Bummin’ it

Beach bummin’ it in the Caribbean has been the ultimate relaxation.  What is not to love – you have the critical elements:  sea, sand and sun.  Throw in spunky guys carrying a tray of cool, refreshing drinks, and it’s golden! What do you consider the essentials of beach bummin’?  Beach Bum Paradise suggests that being a beach bum is a state of mind.  Perhaps a lifestyle many aspire to.  After all, plane loads of people traveling to the Caribbean every day can’t be wrong!

How do you see yourself beach bummin’ it?  For me – the key elements of sea, sand and sun usually come together in November in the form of a mini escape from the impending Canadian winter!  Don’t get me wrong – I love the snow, and life without winter just isn’t the same!  Many years of living in Australia taught me that “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas” piping through the shopping mall sound system should correspond to long sleeves and covered shoes!  Walking around in flip flops and a t-shirt just doesn’t say Christmas wonderland to me! An idyllic day spent relaxing on the beach generally starts with making sure to have a lounge chair in a great spot.  Pull it up to have the feet dangling in the water – even better!  Add in a good book and I am in heaven.  I can spend the entire day going between book and swimming, trips to the bar for the necessary refreshments (after all, one must stay hydrated – thank you to my spunky barman for the the awesome Pina Colada’s!)  Interspersed with all this activity – a couple good naps under a palm tree.  The lifestyle of the beach bum certainly sounds brilliant for recharging those batteries! What about water sports?  Does the true lounge lizard embark on such activities?  My preferred activities in the water include floating, splashing and swimming.  No stress to be had when having a total R&R on the beach.

For those days when floating isn’t enough, there is always an array of water sports available, including kayaking, paddle boating and sailing on the catamarans.

I, for one, am unable to sit still for too long, and love to get out there – as long as I am still on the water I am happy!  What are your favourite beach bummin’ activities?  My recent stay at the Grand Palladium saw my beach bummin’ ways mixed with outings to Dunn’s River Falls, Negril and watching stunning sun sets at the end of the day.  One week is never enough!

Looking forward to many Novembers of bummin’ it on the beach!

  1. Anita, your Jamaica posts are driving me crazy! As a fellow Canadian (but one who doesn’t love snow) I could SO use a tropical vacation right now. I have pretty much the same beach bum style as you – Read. Splash. Drink. Repeat. Sigh… maybe next year!

  5. Sounds like my ideal lifestyle. It’s a goal I aspire to and one day I will get there. Thanks for sharing, those pictures were needed, especially on a cold and snowy day like today here in Indiana. I’m ready to escape! :-)
